After waiting more than two years, Emmanuel, Kingfisher, commissioned their comfort dog ministry Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020. Their comfort dog is Miriam and she came to them from Lutheran Church Charities (LCC), Northbrook, IL. Miriam has over 2000 hours of training. Her purpose is to serve as a bridge to bring the mercy, compassion, presence and proclamation of Jesus Christ to those who are hurting or in need. Miriam comes with her own Bible verse: Exodus 8:4, and her own Facebook page: MiriamComfortDog. Miriam is the second LCC comfort dog in the Oklahoma District, joining Rufus from St. Mark’s, Edmond. Rufus was very helpful to the ministry team from Emmanuel before Miriam arrived. Rev. Barrie Henke, Oklahoma District President, was a guest at the commissioning; along with Janice Marut, LCC SW Regional Coordinator, and Rhoda Hampton St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ft. Worth, TX, comfort dog ministry team; and Erica Erler and comfort dog Rufus from St. Mark’s, Edmond. Comfort Dog Miriam and her ministry team at Emmanuel, Kingfisher, are excited for their new ministry to the Oklahoma District.
